Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is closely monitoring all developments related to Coronavirus Disease 2023 (COVID-19), and we take this and any other health-related concern very seriously. District officials will remain in close contact with local, state, and federal agencies – such as the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), the Fulton County Board of Health (BOH), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for the latest information on this disease.
In this case, many of the decisions and plans around quarantines or school closures will be led by the federal government with assistance from state emergency management officials. We have received guidance from those agencies and are incorporating key components into the District’s emergency management practices. We will provide updated information to students, families and District employees as we receive directives from local, state, and federal health officials.
GO Team Elections Postponed until Fall Semester 2023
In light of the public health emergency posed by COVID-19, and in accordance with the guidance from Governor Brian Kemp, Atlanta Public Schools will be teleschooling and teleworking for the rest of academic year 2023-2023. The unprecedented public health emergency on the state, national and international level is quickly evolving and has presented a myriad of challenges to our schools and families as we all work to adjust to the new normal of working and schooling remotely. The district’s highest priority is protecting the health of our students, staff, their families, and the community at large. As such, Atlanta Public Schools has decided to postpone the GO Team elections scheduled for April 16-24 until the beginning of school year 2023-2021.
All parents and staff members who have declared their candidacy and been deemed eligible for the election, will still be able to participate in the election when it takes place. Eligible candidates will receive additional information regarding their next steps for the election via the email address included in their candidate declaration.
